Director duo Sheershak Anand and Shantanu Ray Chhibber make their debut in Bollywood with q supernatural thriller in 3G. Starring the handsome Neil Nitin Mukesh and Sonal Chauhan, this movie has hit the screens today. Let’s see how its is.

    Story:
Sam (Neil Nitin Mukesh) and Sheena (Sonal Chauhan) go on a romantic holiday to the beautiful Fiji Islands. During the trip Sam accidentally loses his phone. The couple then go to a local market where Sam’s eyes are lured by a second hand 3G enabled phone, which he ends up buying. One fine day as the couple are having some fun times, Sam receives a call from an unknown number.
The call happens to be of an unidentified lady(Mrinalini Sharma) in pain. Sam keeps getting frequent calls from that number followed by some evil illusions. All this incidents eventually start affecting Sam’s mental health. The couple finally decide to identify the secret behind these calls and end up meeting one person after the other. What affect do these incidents have on the couple? and Will they be able to find out the truth behind these mishaps? That forms the rest of the story.

    Positive Points:
Well, to start with, I couldn’t help but mention the most creative part of the movie, which were the opening credits. Filmmakers Sheershak Anand and Shantanu Ray Chhibber’s attempt as debutant directors is praiseworthy. The concept of using a phone as a root of all evils is something that is novel and imaginative. The first half has a few bone chilling moments.
Speaking of performances, Neil Nitin Mukesh (even though not brilliant) manages to show some versatility through his act. His expressions brings out a few (and only few) goose bump moments. Sonal Chauhan shows what she has got, her body and skin. The other characters are decent. The exotic scenes between that couple may keep the viewers going.

    Negative Points:
Even though the concept is scary, the execution most certainly isn’t. And albeit not tend to be, the movie carries inadvertent humor even in the scariest of scenes. After giving a speechless performance in David, Neil fails to come close to his best act. Sonal does nothing in the movie but shouting and showing off her svelte self. Mrinalini Sharma is more of a beauty pageant contestant than a ghost. While the first half of the film deals with a few terrifying moments, the second half deals with nothing but frequent phone calls, unplanned hilarity and robotic Neil.

    Technical Points:
The songs of the movie are a huge let down. One would surely expect a decent job from Mithoon who has been associated with movies like Murder 2, Jism 2, etc, but he fails to deliver completely. The cinematography is ideal while shooting the beautiful Fiji Islands in the first half, but looses control in the second part. The background score by Amar Mohile contains nothing by a corky ring tone that will manage to play in the viewer’s head for days after watching the movie. Editing by Sanjay Sharma is just about average.

    Verdict:
On the whole, 3G is an amalgamation of good concept, bad execution and a some superb locales and very ordinary performances. Some interesting thrills work for the film and on the flip side, bad execution and some over the top scenes go against the film completely. Finally, 3G has some vague and very hopeless connectivity. You can wait and watch it on DVD.
