Akbar and KKR spar over incidents

Hyderabad, March 23: MIM Floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi on Saturday indulged in a wordy duel with Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy in the Assembly.

When the TRS MLAs stalled the proceedings in the House demanding that the government release their and TJAC leaders, who were arrested by the police during ‘Sadak Bandh’ on March 21 leading to adjournment of the House twice, the Speaker invited the Floor leaders and discussed about the business and decided the agenda for the day. The floor leaders agreed for discussion on the arrests during the ‘Sadak Bandh’ and a short discussion on the prevailing ‘power situation’ in the State.

When the House reassembled, the MIM Floor leader requested the Chair to give an opportunity to speak. Deputy Speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka permitted Akbaruddin Owaisi to do so. Akbar has alleged that the State government had vengefully arrested 50 Muslims, including elderly persons at Mominpet village near Vikarabad in a communal violence between Hindus and Muslims where a mosque and a Hanuman temple exist side by side. He also demanded that the State government arrest a school principal, who allegedly molested a Muslim girl in 2011 in Anantapur town. He asked the Home Minister to include these issues in her statement.

As part of making a statement in the House on Sadak Bandh arrests, the Home Minister made a statement on the Mominpet incident also. She said a mosque and a Hanuman temple exist side by side. While Hindus were singing Bhajans everyday, the Muslims were objecting to the Bhajans and asked the Hanuman Temple Committee to stop for a while. The issue was going on for the last one year. On Friday, a group of Muslims barged into the Hanuman Temple with footwear on and demanded Hindus to stop Bhajans for a while resulting in a friction between the two communities. However, the police rushed to the spot on time and dispersed them and brought the situation under control.

Taking objection to the Home Minister’s statement, Akbruddin alleged that the Home Minister failed to keep the facts before the House. He alleged that the police had detained the Muslims only and not touched even a single Hindu in the incident. He also alleged that the government had failed to initiate action against the school principal, who molested a Muslim girl though the incident took place two years ago. He alleged that the Congress government was vengefully acting against him after his party withdrew support to it. He said the government vengefully acting against the TRS party, which introduced no-confidence motion against the government, and arrested the TRS MLAs with vengeance.

Allowed to speak, Congress MLA Mastan Vali said as the Congress government was secular, it allotted more funds to the Minorities. He said the government would not keep quiet if the MLAs wanted to take the law into their hands. He said the TRS MLAs were acting against the law. He also demanded that the government take action against Anantapur school principal and the Mominpet incident as per law.

Responding to Mastan Vali’s speech, Akbaruddin said half knowledge was dangerous. Comparing the percentage of the budget allotted to the Minorities during the TDP and Congress regimes, Akbaruddin said about 50,000 communal riots have taken place during the Congress regime in the country and thousands of youths were killed. The Congress government failed to implement the Sachar, Ranganath and Gopal Singh Committees’ reports till date. He said he was not questioning the Congress party’s secular credentials, but was only questioning the pseudo secularism of the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government.

The MIM leader said the government has no guts to take a decision on Telangana issue whatever it may be. He said the House has to pass a resolution demanding the Centre to take a decision on Telangana issue. He alleged that the Congress party was vengefully acting against the leaders who withdrew support to it. He also said that YSRCP Chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was a good person for the Congress when he was in that party, but suddenly became a bad boy when he challenged the Congress and the ruling party sent him to jail. He made it clear that MIM was not scared of cases and jail.

Reacting on Akbaruddin’s remarks, the Chief Minister said there was no link between what he spoke and withdrawal of support to the government. He said the entire country witnessed what MIM leader spoke and the government had nothing to do with the arrest of the MIM leader. He said the government would act according to the law and there was no interference in the cases.

Akbaruddin said everybody knew whom the government had hired to upload his speech in the net. He demanded that the State government make a resolution on Telangana issue and forward it to the Centre. He also demanded that the State government withdraw cases against the TRS and JAC leaders and release them immediately. He demanded that the government release the elderly persons arrested by the police in Mominpet incident and arrest the principal of the school in Anantapur town in connection with molestation of a Muslim girl.

Giving clarifications, the Home Minister said 24 Hindus and 40 Muslims were arrested in connection with the Mominpet incident and the government was not acting discriminately and it was acting as per the law. She said the police arrested four teachers with regard to Anantapur incident and they obtained anticipatory bail. She said there were two Muslim teachers among the four, who got anticipatory bail and the case was pending in the court.
