Vellur jail carries on the education programmes to the prisoners in association with the Tamilnadu Open University and Mahatma Gandhi Community College. Perarivalan without fearing about his death sentence has concentrated on his studies and stood first in the education programme being conducted by the Jails Ministry.
In the assassination case of Rajiv Gandhi at Perambudur in 1991.. Perarivalan, Murugan and Santan were given the sentence to death punishment. They then pplied for the President's plea and he rejected their plea. Later these had approached Supreme Court and the case is now in pending. One of these assassins of Rajiv, Perarivalan has now achieved this great feat.
