New Delhi, March 31: The Congress High Command has reportedly decided to replace Botsa Satyanarayana as the PCC chief, despite his expressing his preference to the party post to the cabinet.
According to information Congress president Sonia Gandhi has decided to once again bring in the former chief D Srinivas, as he led the party to victory twice in 2004 and 2009. Though the party has also considered the name of agriculture minister Kanna Lakshminarayana for the post, it preferred DS because he is from the Telangana region said sources. More over, Kanna is one of the ministers who were issued notices by the Supreme Court for issuing controversial GOs that favoured Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. Though CBI has not initiated any action against him so far, it might in future and that would unnecessarily put the party to inconvenience, it was felt.
As Botsa has been keen on continuing in the PCC post, he tried to lobby in Delhi. But this time none of the senior leaders gave him appointment, said sources. Botsa planned to leave for New Delhi on Friday, but cancelled the visit as he did not get the appointments of the AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad and others. Botsa’s differences with the Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy turned against him. The High Command appears to have disapproved Botsa’s constant trials to destabilize the Chief Minister.
Apart from replacing the PCC Chief, the High Command is also preparing to cleanse the state party, ahead of the elections and invigorate it. Sources said the AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi might take interest in reshaping the party, introducing some young faces, once the PCC chief is replaced. He has already started consulting some of the senior leaders of the state in this regard.
