Much like Ajay Devgn’s last release Son Of Sardar, the post-release response to Himmatwala was tremendously negative. Critics thrashed the film, and even though it was trending on social networking websites like Twitter, 80% of tweets were mocking the Sajid Khan directed action-comedy.
But the box office collections have a different story to tell. Released on 3100-3200 screens across India, Himmatwala has collected a decent 12-13 crores (early estimates) on it’s first day at the box office.
The film opened poorly at Urban multiplexes on Friday, but picked up for the evening and night shows. At mass-dominated centres, the night shows of the Ajay Devgn-Tamanna starrer was running at 70-80% occupancy.Collections from a few centres suggest that the film has done well in UP, Bihar, Gujarat and parts of Maharashtra.
Update: Mumbai circuit business is around 4.25 crores, again an early estimate. Final first day collections of Himmatwala will be published tomorrow morning. Stay tuned to Indicine for all the latest box office updates.
