    Separate state only solution

Alleging that the State government was showing discrimination in supplying power to the Telangana region, TRS today made it clear that creation of Telangana State would alone solve all the problems, including power supply.

Participating in a short-discussion on ‘power situation’ in the State in the Assembly on Monday, TRS MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy alleged the government has totally failed to take timely steps to solve the power problem in the State though it faced the same situation last year. He alleged that the government had assured nine-hour power supply to the farm sector in its election manifesto, but failed to give even five-hour power supply. He said standing crops were withering away at several places across the State due to lack of power supply and it was not correct on the part of the government to say that not a single acre of crop withered due to lack of power supply to the farm sector.

Alleging that the government was not providing power systematically to the Telangana region, he said the government was providing 1200 MW power to the farm sector in the NPTCL region where 10 lakh pumpsets were there and needed 1900 MW power. He said there were 9,846 feeders across the State 4,995 feeders in the Telangana region and 4851 in the Seemandhra region.

He said the government was providing seven-hour power supply to the Seemandhra feeders whereas it was not even providing five-hour power to the Telangana region. Therefore, the TRS was demanding separate Telangana State. He said the government has to complete gas-based power projects proposed in Karimnagar and Ranga Reddy districts. The government was not setting up coal-based power projects in the Telangana region though coal was available in the region aplenty. Pocharam said the government has utterly failed in supplying power to the Telangana region and it would be solved only in separate Telangana State.

Alleging that the government was not bothered about deaths due to electrocution, he said 1,760 persons died in Mahbubnagar district alone due to electrocution. He demanded that the government extend Rs 5 lakh ex gratia to the kin of those died of electrocution.

Alleging that the Congress government was showing clear discrimination in supplying power to the Indiramma houses when compared to the Seemandhra region, he said the TDP, which was leveling charges against the government, had failed to extend its support to the no-confidence motion introduced by TRS. “It clearly shows the Congress and TDP were colluded with each other and hence the TDP did not participate in the voting on the no-confidence motion”, he alleged.

At this juncture, TDP senior leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao countered saying that the TRS was only sold out to the Congress party several times. He said he was ready for a debate on this issue if TRS has guts to participate in such a debate.
