Additional commissioner of police (west region) Vishawas Nangre-Patil said, "He committed suicide due to a personal problem. He left four draft text messages on his mobile phone. We are inquiring other details".
Reportedly, the officer in his messages encouraged his colleagues, mentioned that his fiance had lied to him and apologized to his parents for the "cowardly" act. The police has refused to spill any further information on the issues.
However, his colleagues claimed that Sonavane often felt depressed after talking to his fiance who he got engaged in February this year.
Before the fateful incident, Sonavane chatted with his friends till late night and went to terrace to sleep. At around 4:00 am, he apparently collected a pistol from the armory and shot himself at around 5:00 am. Hearing the gun shot, his colleagues ran to terrace and found Nandlala bleeding. He was rushed to hospital where he died during treatment.
