The movie has released today across the state, so let us see how it is.
Story :
Kumar (Siddharth) is a timid and hardworking fellow. He hates the concept of love and is averse to relationships. But he comes from a family which firmly believes in the tradition of love marriages. Kumar leads a simple and uncomplicated life.
Everything changes when Sanjana (Hansika Motwani) comes into Kumar’s life. She joins his office as a new employee and Kumar instantly falls for her. He starts coming up with plans to woo her. But he faces stiff competition from George (Ganesh Venkatraman), the office stud.
A desperate Kumar turns to Love Guru Premji (Brahmanandam), a renowned matchmaking expert. Premji comes up with some clever schemes and manages to bring Kumar and Sanjana together. But that is when the story takes a twist. Premji’s past catches up with him and all hell breaks loose.
What is that twist ? Who is Premji ? Will Kumar and Sanjana marry each other ? That forms the rest of the story.
Plus Points :
Siddharth has come up with a neat and effective performance. He is a perfect fit for the role of Kumar. From a commercial perspective, this is his most convincing performance in recent times. Brahmanandam is the life and soul of this film. He is simply hilarious as Love Guru Premji. The comedy scenes involving Brahmanandam and Siddharth are very entertaining.
Hansika looks good as Sanjana. She has done a neat job in this movie. Ganesh Venkatraman is very convincing as the office alpha male.
The first half of the film has good pace and the entertainment quotient is quite high. Witty dialogues have been penned for Brahmanandam and these sequences keep viewers entertained. The scene where he is revealed as Brad Pitt Satish is funny. Venu Madhav is ok. The romantic scenes between Hansika and Siddharth are nice.
Samantha’s cameo appearance will make her fans happy. She looks gorgeous. Rana Daggubati also makes a cameo appearance as a fan of Brahmanandam.
Minus Points :
The film’s second half is a let down. Screenplay, which is a big asset for the first half, becomes a liability in the second half. Excessive Tamil flavour creeps into the film here. Nalini is irritating and very loud.
The film runs on very predictable lines. The story is quite old and this concept has been used by everyone from Rajinikanth to Salman Khan. Once the twist about Brahmanandam’s past is revealed, the story loses momentum completely.
Songs are weak and they come in at odd moments, especially in the second half. Good songs would have really helped the film. Dubbing quality is not very good and better care should have been taken about the lip syncing.
Technical Aspects :
Gopi Amarnath’s cinematography is ok. Editing is ok. Sathya C’s music is a big liability for the film. Background score is not very effective. Veligonda Srinivas’s dialogues are witty.
Sundar C’s direction is impressive in the first half. But he loses his way in the second half.
Final Word :
‘Something Something’ has a very good first half and below par second half. Siddharth and Brahmanandam keep the film alive with their entertaining sequences. Poor music and a predictable storyline are liabilities. The movie ends up being just a decent romantic comedy.
