Giving a shock to other political parties, 16 MLAs of the YSR Congress party quit their MLA posts in support of united Andhra Pradesh on Thursday. Except the party honorary President and MLA YS Vijayamma, the other 16 MLAs resigned their posts and faxed their letters to Speaker N Manohar.
All the YSR party MLAs were demanding the ruling Congress to spell out their stand on Telangana before taking a decision on the bifurcation of state.
Party MLA Gununath Reddy alleged that Congress was playing games to gain political benefits by raising the Telangana issue at this movement. He said he will not withdraw his resignation until the congress made clear its stand on Telangana.
Meanwhile, Party official spokesperson G Ramachander Rao said the resignation of his party MLAs was their 'personal affair'. The prevailing political uncertainty could have been avoided had the Congress spell out its stand on bifurcation of state before the centre take a decision on the contentious issue.
