New Delhi: BSNL finally ended an era as the popular telegram service called Taar, closes today. The last telegram has been sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by four year old Naman.
The telegram begun with the lines quoted by Swami Vivekanand, "Woh bina ghabraye nek raah par chalte gaye".
This telegram service is 163 years old and at one time, it was the only way to deliver quick and urgent messages, across the country. It was once loved and feared as the bearer of good and bad news. These modern means of communication have reduced the need of the telegraph services and thus, BSNL took the step to stop this service.
BSNL has taken this decision after consulting with the Department of Posts. Later, the Government said that because the service was causing lot of loss, BSNL should shut it down.
This last telegram will be preserved as museum piece.
