Kolkata-based businessman Sundeep Bhutoria has adopted a yet-to-be-named Royal Bengal tigers of Alipore Zoological Gardens (Alipore Zoo).
The wildlife enthusiast and social activist has adopted the youngest tigress of the four Royal Bengal Tigers at Alipore Zoo, who is aged 8 years and 5 months.
She was born to a Royal Bengal Tigress named Krishna and a white tiger named Anirban on March 4, 2005, at the zoo.
The other Royal Bengal Tigers at the zoo are 13-year-old Krishno (male), 12-year-old Teesta (tigress) and another unnamed male tiger aged 12 years.
"I was in touch with the forest authorities across India for quite some time and I am elated that Kolkata zoo is the first to accept my request," said Bhutoria.
