Hyderabad, March 21: Tension mounted at several places in Mahabubnagar district, as TRS and JAC activists went ahead with the ‘Sadak Bandh’ despite police not giving permission and arresting several leaders.
Telangana Political JAC Convener Prof Kodandaram strongly protested the arrests of activists participating in the ‘Sadak Bandh’. Talking to the media at Alampur, he questioned if they were dacoits or hardened criminals. He said the government was getting them arrested undemocratically. Police arrested Kodandaram when he participated in the Sadak Bandh at the Alampur junction.
Reminding that he was a university professor, Kodandaram questioned if there was need to deploy so many policemen to arrest him. Stating that they would intensify their agitation, Kodandaram said he would continue his protest in the police station. He was shifted to the Rajolu police station.
At the Alampur Toll Plaza, TRS activists deflated the tyres of vehicles, protesting against the arrest of party MLAs Eetela and Jupalli. There was a heavy traffic congestion. Despite heavy police posse being posted all along the national highway, TRS leaders and workers came out on the roads and protested.
Meanwhile, BJP state president G Kishan Reddy charged the government of following undemocratic methods to scuttle the ‘Sadak Bandh’. He said in Hyderabad that BJP leaders were illegally arrested in Mahabubnagar and called it violation of civil rights. He challenged the government to introduce the Telangana resolution in the house if it had guts.
