Maoist leader Sudarshan alias Sriramulu Srinivas who was the kingpin in Alipiri claymore mine blast in 2003 intended to assassinate then chief minister Chandrababu Naidu has been arrested by the police. Khammam SP AV Ranganath confirmed the arrest and he would be produced in the court on Sunday.
Sudarshan is a Maoist Central Committee member and a key leader in Andhra Orissa Border region. He is the key accused in the assassinate plot designed for Naidu's murder. A reward amount of Rs 20 lakhs has been announced on the head of Sudarshan.
It may be recalled that a district court in Chittoor upheld seven years imprisonment for two gelatin stick traders Ramaswamy Reddy and Nagarjuna in coonection with the blast. Maoist leaders Sagar and another gelatin stick trader Gangi Reddy were set free due to lack of evidence. Although the prosecution has leveled charges against 33 people, only four of them has been arrested excluding Sudarshan as most of the accused were killed during the exchange of fire between cops and the maoists.
