Vidyut Jamwal made a striking entry with his negative role in John Abraham’s action entertainer Force. The movie went on to be a decent hit and made Vidyut an overnight star. He went on to win all the major debut awards last year and earned himself the tag of an ultimate action hero. Vidyut is now back as the leading man in producer Vipul Shah’s action entertainer Commando. Also starring Pooja Chopra and Jaideep Ahlawat, Commando has hit the screens this week. Let’s see how it is.
Story:-
Karanvir Dogra(Vidyut Jamwal) is a range one commando with the Indian Para military force. He is arrested by the Chinese government for tress passing their border and is tortured for over one year. On the other hand, somewhere in Pathankot, Amrit Kanwal Singh(Jaideep Ahlawat) a deadly criminal in that area wants to marry his cousin Simrit(Pooja Chopra) at any cost.
As time passe by, Karan is prosecuted for his crime and as he is being taken to some unknown location, he escapes the Chinese and crosses into Himachal Pradesh at the Lepcha border to reach his base at Pathankot. As Karan crosses the border, he runs into Simrit who is escaping from Amrit Kanwal Singh’s goons.
Karanvir warns the goons to let go off her but they don’t listen and bear the brunt of his pent up anger. Simrit far from being pleased tells Karan that he has created more trouble for her and now he must escort her till she feels safe. Rest of the story is as to how Karnavir saves Simrit form the evil clipses of Amrit Kanwal Singh.
Plus Points:-
As the tag line suggests, Commando is surely a one man film. It is a complete Vidyut Jamwal show as it is totally dominated by him. One can say that Vidyut is the Indian version of Sylvester Stallone and no wonder you remember films like First blood and Rambo while watching this film. Vidyut is absolutely amazing in all the action sequences and also reminds you the Akshay Kumar in the early 90′s. He has the body, talent and mostly importantly he also dances well which is a must for every Hindi film hero.
Jaideep Ahlawat who plays the bad guy does an amazing job. His body language, characterization and dialogues suit the film perfectly. Pooja Chopra looks decent and plays her part well. Commando has some hardcore entertaining action sequences right through out the film. The films run time is sleek and has a crisp start to end finish.
Minus Points:-
Commando’s story is very cliched. There is nothing special about it as it is a good versus evil saga. The scenes that showcase Vidyut’s escape form China are far from unbelievable. The way Vidyut makes his way back into the country and associates with the heroine is also not that convincing.
Vidyut looks stiff in some scenes and his sequences with Pooja Chopra could have been better. The lead pair lacks chemistry and that clearly shows on screen. First 15 minutes of the second half tend to get a bit slow. The story gets predictable right from the start of the film.
Technical Aspects:-
What would you expect from a hardcore action film rather than some kick ass action sequences. Commando has some of the best action scenes that you have seen in any recent Bollywood film. Lethal combat fights, amazing stunts and well directed actions sequences are in abundance in Commando. Background score is very effective as it elevates the film completely.
Dialogues are OK and so is the music. Director Dilip Ghosh sticks to the plot and makes this film a simple watch. Though the adaptation is very old school, its been quite a while since we have seen such an hardcore film in Hindi. Screenplay is apt and so is camerawork. Locations look stunning and give a fresh feel to the film.
Final Word:-
On the whole, Commando is one film which has some of the best and original action action scenes in any recent Hindi film. Watch out for Vidyut Jamwal as he displays some of the best and original stunts you would have seen in a very long time. Finally, even as Commando reminds you of films like First Blood and Rambo series, this desi version is a must watch for all action movie lovers.
