Hyderabad, April 16: The sudden tirade against the YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and his father and late Chief Minister Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, has surprised many. Though Congress leaders like V Hanumanta Rao have been harsh towards Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy even when he was alive, most others owed their loyalty to him and hesitated to criticize him. Even those who criticized Jagan, stopped short of attacking YSR. Now the trend suddenly changed.
Finance minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy who performed a Yagam praying that YSR should come back to power in 2009 and put up a massive cutout if Jagan, on the occasion of his birthday was the first to start the sharpest tirade against the family. He said all the family members of YSR should be banished from the society. Then he was followed by the PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana, C Ramachandraiah, Bala Raju, Pitani Satyanarayana, Kondru Murali, Thota Narasimham and others. Thota Narasimham went to the extent of saying that Jagan should be hanged. What is surprising is that excepting Danam Nagender, the other ministers are even finding fault with late YSR.
According to reliable sources, the Congress High Command itself had decided to disown YSR as it had decided to take on Jagan ahead of elections. Only few loyalists like Danam and MLA Sudhir Reddy condemned the attack on YSR. With six senior ministers linked to the charges leveled against Jagan, the entire cabinet is in a whirlpool. If it is proved that if all of them were guilty, then the cabinet of Kiran Kumar Reddy should quit and face elections. Facing the elections with guilty ministers would be an uphill task as opposition would use the corruption charges as the election weapon. It is in this context, the Congress High Command appears to have decided to disown YSR and claim that the ministers were taken for a ride by the late Chief Minister. The ministers have decided to argue that the concessions they gave to the industrialists were at the behest of YSR and as per the decisions of the cabinet. They are claiming that they had nothing to do with the behind the screen manipulations of Jagan. This way the ministers had decided to claim innocence. It is being pointed out in party circles that CBI would have to prove that the individual ministers had personally benefited, to make the charges against them stand the scrutiny of the law. If Jagan or someone else gets some pecuniary benefits out of some decisions, the ministers could not be blamed, they are arguing.
