YSR Congress honorary president YS Vijayamma launched fast-unto-death on Tuesday, protesting against the power tariff hike.
She first paid homage to the martyr's memorial at Bashirbagh and walked to the New MLA quarters, where she sat in fast.
All the senior leaders of the party and MLAs walked along with Vijayamma to the venue. Vijayamma first garlanded the statue of YSR at the venue and addressed the gathering there.
The Bashirbagh memorial was erected after Congress came to power in 2004 at Bashirbagh, where 3 persons died and more than a hundred injured in the police firing on agitators against power tariff hike during the Chandra Babu Naidu rule on August 28 2000. Then the movement was led by late Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy with the active participation of the communist parties.
