Bangaluru, May 7: Union ministers Chiranjeevi and Daggubati Purandeswari who had recently campaigned for the Congress in Telugu populated areas had achieved what the Congress High Command wanted them to. In all the constituencies they had campaigned, Congress party candidates are in majority.

Chiranjeevi has campaigned in 20 to 25 constituencies in Karnataka. He has campaigned chiefly in Bangaluru rural, Bangaluru urban, Bellari and other areas. Congress achieved good results in the areas. The new BSR party launched by Sri Ramulu, henchman of the jailed former mining baron Gali Janardana Reddy received a flak in his stronghold Bellari. Excepting Sriramulu and Suresh, no one of that party won, though it fielded candidates for all the constituencies. Bellary witnessed Congress sweep. Chiranjeevi and Purandeswari could safely take credit to the sweep, as Bellary has a majority population of Telugu settlers.

In areas of Telugu population, people thronged to have a look at Chiranjeevi. There were even lathicharges as police were unable to control the crowds. Chiru also succeeded in attracting Kannada people, as he has fan following in Karnataka too.

Meanwhile, the Narendra Modi factor the BJP tried to use, had not succeeded. In Basavanagudi where Modi personally campaigned, the BJP candidate did not succeed. Though BJP promised the Gujarat kind of euphoria if returned to power, people were not convinced.
