The CBI which is investigating Jagan illegal assets case told the court that former ministers Sabita Indra Reddy and Dharmana Prasada Rao were liable for imprisonment up to 14 years as they were found involved in serious offenses that resulted in huge loss to public exchequer.
CBI's counsel has seeked the judicial custody of Sabita and Dharmana on the grounds that they were threatening the witnesses. He also argued that the two former ministers have the backing of chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and other cabinet ministers, and this situation would instill a sense of fear in the minds of the witnesses.
Sabita and Dharmana have landed in trouble due to the controversial GOs issued during YS Rajasekhar Reddy's tenure as chief minister favoring Vanpic project and Dalmia Cements. While Sabita issued GOs allowing the illegal transfer of limestone mines to Dalmia cements, Dharmana was instrumental in permitting the grant of 18,000 acres to Nimmagadda Prasad's firm for a nominal price.
The court posted the next hearing on Sabita and Dharmana's judicial custody petition filed by CBI to July 19th.
