On national Highway 75 in latehar district they were confronted by 3 armed robbers.
Three armed men allegedly pulled the policewoman out of the vehicle and gang-raped her.
The policewoman's husband was killed in Maoist attack, she had been appointed in the district police department on compassionate after the death of her husband.
Latehar police said that they have detained a few suspects but no arrests have been made so far.
"A medical examination has been done, a FIR was registered, and our investigations are on. We have detained a few people for questioning. No arrests have been made yet," said Latehar's Superintendent of Police Michael S. Raj.
