Belgaum: Here comes another barbarous addition in the trail of ongoing rape cases across the country, which have put a question mark on humanity, society and all the big talks. How do you gulp down the story of a 20 year old student being raped, stoned to death and then thrown in semi naked condition on the outskirts of a village with 'Maratha' engraved on her body?
A college student, who was on her way back to home after writing an examination, was found dead at a farm in Sulebhavi village, 20 kms from here on Saturday. Reportedly, the girl was raped, her face was smashed with stone and "Maratha" was etched on her body in Devanagari script.
The victim, who was a Government Degree College student was apparently abducted on Friday evening. The girl's family waited for her for some time, but when she did not return, a search patrol was launched to find her out. Failing to spot their ward, the family registered a police complaint on Saturday.
The student was then recovered from a village farm by the police. The girl's father could recognize his daughter only on the basis of her footwear and clothes as the face was pulped beyond recognition.
Several students blocked roads in protest and withdrew only after an assurance from the local police.
Reportedly, Police superintendent Sandeep Patil and deputy commissioner Munish Moudgil visited the spot and have formed three teams to nab the culprits. Moudgil himself termed the offences as 'heinous' and said that the culprits must be hanged.
This wasn't the first time when such an incident happened in Belgaum. Back in January, a pre-university student was gang raped, killed and then burnt in Athani. The police is yet to arrest the convicts.
