Hyderabad, April 1: There is a hot political debate on the allegations made by jailed minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana’s brother Harinath, in the DCC meeting of Guntur on Sunday.
Harinath has charged the government of making his brother a scapegoat to arrest Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
Could there be truth in it?
Was Mopidevi arrested to facilitate Jagan’s arrest?
Was it a ploy to make it look as if the government was impartial and allowed even its own leader to be arrested?
These are the questions being discussed in political circles now. The allegation made by Harinath gave credence to the charge of the YSR Congress that cases were foisted against Jagan to prevent his political growth.
The Supreme Court issued notices to ministers Dharmana Prasada Rao, Sabita Indra Reddy, Geeta Reddy, Ponnala Lakshmaiah and Kanna Lakshmi Narayana also, for issuing controversial GOs, that ultimately favoured Jagan. Of these, CBI initially proceeded against Dharmana, by naming him an accused. Though Dharmana submitted his resignation, it was not accepted by the Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy. He has even convinced the Congress High Command that accepting prosecution of Dharmana would mean acceptance of guilt of the entire government.
The cabinet even rejected permission to the CBI to proceed against Dharmana. There was no response from the government when the Governor asked the government to reconsider its stand on Dharmana and consult legal experts. The CBI also appears to have left it at that. The agency made no effort to arrest him.
The reason CBI has been showing to oppose the bail of Jagan is that being a MP, he would influence the witnesses if he came out. But, Dharmana who is a minister is allowed to be out. The other four ministers are holding their influential positions and could totally subvert the cases against them, because of their positions.
Then why Mopidevi alone was arrested?
Was it just a sample arrest to show that the government was impartial? Is it true that Mopidevi was made a scapegoat so that the government could actually get at Jagan?
If this was not a ploy to arrest Jagan, why were the other ministers spared?
It may be mentioned that the judge who has accepted bribe from the henchmen of former mining baron Gali Janardana Reddy to give him bail is on bail. This is a direct crime. Jagan is charged of quid pro quo deals. He has not directly received any bribe from anyone. But the judge who directly received bribe to give bail was allowed to come out on bail. ACB which handled the case did not object to his bail. Being a judge till yesterday, is he not in a position to influence the witnesses? Then why was he allowed bail?
Coming back to Jagan’s case, auditor Vijaya Sai Reddy, vice chairman of the Jagati Publications (Sakshi) was allowed bail, though he is the second accused in Jagan assets case. He could come out on bail because CBI had not raised any objections. Was he allowed to come out as he was not a big leader and would not be a threat to the Congress government?
CBI appears to believe that Jagan alone was having the exceptional talent of tampering with the evidence, while all others were incapable of such skills.
These and the questions raised by Harinath have to be answered either by the government or the CBI. Otherwise there is a chance that people would believe that the government got Jagan arrested only to check his political growth.
Meanwhile it is being said that Mopidevi is planning to join the YSR Congress. It is being said that he would contest the next election on the YSRCP ticket and place before the people the injustice done to him, a BC leader.
