SV.Krishna Reddy who won Nandi Award for his film ‘Aahwanam’ starring Ramya Krishna and Srikanth, took the film to Hollywood titled as 'Divorce Invitation'. The film's premiere was screened at Los Angeles, USA and the film producer,scriptwrier Bala Rajasekharuni got candid while admitting that adapting film so rooted in tradition wasn’t easy. He said “SVK Reddy wanted to make an all-Hollywood film and he was mulling over what to make. I suggested that he should work on a familiar turf and looked through his films. ‘Ahwanam’ was the most different, it dealt with the topic of divorce,”
He went on to add “When I asked my partner at work if we could work around the religion angle, he screamed, ‘No way!’". He adds “The girl draws a huge pre-nup agreement based on her own thesis for a sociology programme,”. The film stars Jonathan Bennett, Jamie Lyn-Signler and Nadia Bjorlin.
Bala with theatre from Pondicherry University, University of Hyderabad and University of Wisconsin went on to pursue PhD in theatre and cinema is making rapid strides in the industry. He even worked with Nagesh Kukunoor and also worked on the adaption of Inscrutable Americans based on a novel by Anurag Mathur. He is popular for his Indo-American films like Green Card Fever and Blind Ambition . Blind Ambition won awards for ‘Best Picture’ at film festivals like the Big Bear Lake International Film Festival, Long Island International Film Expo and more. Bala decided to stick it out in Hollywood by deciding to move to LA and started his own company, 160-H Productions, through which he offers pre-production services and also offers writing services. Currently Bala also teaches film studies and acting at University of California, Riverside.
