Fingerprint compulsory to get SIM card!

Soon fingerprint may be made compulsory to get SIM Card. The proposal is being discussed by Government. Recently the Department of Telecom (DoT) received a suggestion from the Ministry of Home Affairs, to maintain a database of all subscribers with bio-metric parameters.

Minister of State for Communications and IT Milind Deora revealed this in Loksabha. If fingerprint is made mandatory to get SIM card then thumb impression or finger print of every subscriber should be taken by telecom service provider, when a subscriber applies for mobile connection. Milind Deora said that the Home Ministry’s suggestion is being examined and soon Department of Telecom will take a decision in this regard.
